I have to admit that my Lunch Tree – what I thought was an European Beech – is really a Linden tree (Large-leaved Linden or Lime – Tilia platyphyllos – Sommerlinde). End of March I found a fruit with a pretty hard to crush nutlet and my co-workers said that this is the fruit of a Linden tree…
Mid February I saw a Green Woodpecker sitting in the branches. Bad photo but still – can you see it?
End of March the weather was very nice but my tree was still all naked, right in the middle with a Tower of the historic defensive wall and the Alps behind it. On the right is Mount Pilatus.
And here is my Linden(!) tree. Four days after this photo was taken (April 7th) the leaves were out to the top.

And if it makes you feel any better, I’m pretty sure what I thought was a balsam poplar tree is actually an Eastern cottonwood! 🙂
Gorgeous photographs including the woodpecker – how lovely to have such a perfectly wonderful view. Wish my Lindens were showing some sign of spring… still all my trees are leafless and dormant – except for the silver maples which are beginning to flower. Thank you so much for starting this blog – it’s a wonderful idea and since I love trees so much it’s great fun to see other trees around the world…
